Specialist dementia care operator Vida Healthcare has opened a 2,500sqft training centre to support the career progression of its workers.

Following expansion of its training department from three to seven staff members, the Vida Healthcare Academy now has a permanent base in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

Since 2019, the operator has grown from 250 to 600 staff members, all of whom have undertaken training and development programmes with the academy since it launched in 2021 to create a sustainable, specialist dementia care workforce that offers career paths for workers.

Its academy offers a range of courses, from induction for new starters and care certificate, to specialist training and apprenticeships. Career progression can be secured by any staff member, from carers and chefs, through to home managers.

The department also has an app that has been developed in-house and provides updates on news, training courses and opportunities. The building will also be used to attract talent through recruitment fairs.

‘We’re always on the lookout for new ways that we can invest in our staff, and people interested in a career in social care, and provide them with career development opportunities,’ said James Rycroft, Vida Healthcare managing director.

‘Our team is our greatest asset and the new centre will ensure we can provide significant professional growth and development opportunities throughout their time with us. This will also ensure we can continue to provide residents with the highest quality of compassionate care.’
