Dr. Sheila Farhang shares her favorite summer skincare products

We’re truly in the dog days of summer, and that means more time outside exposed to the elements — like sunshine, sand, surf and more. While savoring every sunny moment, it’s important to take care of our skin. Dermatologist Dr. Sheila Farhang — aka “Dr. Sheila” — sat down with us to share her top five summer skincare essentials. Farhang is board-certified dermatologist and double-fellowship trained cosmetic and skin cancer surgeon, and has been featured in publications such as Forbes, Cosmopolitan, The New York Times, Vogue and more, so she knows a thing or two. She also founded the Tuscon, AZ-based Avant Dermatology, where she shares her expertise in both integrative skincare and cutting-edge procedures — and divulges even more fab tips on social media!

See below for Dr. Sheila’s favorite products to keep your skin looking gorgeous and feeling great this summer.

Bliss That’s Incredi-Peel Glycolic Acid Pads

“It’s really important to exfoliate in the summer because we’re getting exposed to sunscreen getting slathered on our skin, we’re sweating…I love these glycolic acid pads by Bliss,” shares Dr. Sheila. “It helps slough off that dead skin, unclogs pores, and brightens.”

Kiehl’s Micro-Dose Anti-Aging Retinol Serum

“Retinol is the OG of skincare and anti-aging…it helps increase cell turnover, and also helps with acne,” shares the doctor. She suggests switching to a gentler retinol in the summertime, and highly recommends this Kiehl’s Micro-Dose Serum.

EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46

For this skincare regimen, Dr. Sheila says to switch to a higher-SPF facial sunscreen. She says: “This sunscreen is formulated with lactic acid, which helps reduce the appearance of pores and oiliness!”

Almay Clear Complexion Foundation

“This Clear Complexion makeup by Almay is one of my favorites because it’s formulated with salicylic acid, which helps decrease oil production, helps treat and prevent acne, but it’s not that irritating because it’s formulated with pre-biotics and aloe vera,” notes the doctor.

Gillette Venus Skin-Smoothing Exfoliator

“A must have,” enthuses Dr. Sheila. “We also [need to] exfoliate the areas we shave, such as the bikini line. I like this one because it’s gentle but helps decrease ingrown hair and irritation from shaving.”
